Whether we are judging ourselves, friends, family, or people we don’t even know, it never leads us to a good place. Judgement is a powerful sentence we levy on ourselves and others to self soothe and to feel better in the moment. We react to our own circumstances almost as if we are spectators, not often taking responsibility for our own actions, thoughts, and beliefs. Judging others, comparing ourselves to others and believing somehow we are in the right and they are in the wrong, leads to a false sense of worth and self actualization. When we turn that judgement inward onto our self, the damaging effects are multiplied because they reside and become rooted in our thoughts, beliefs, and fuel for our negative emotions. Whether judging or comparing, we find ourselves in dangerous territory, and most likely nothing good will come of it. Yet, knowing and being told ‘judge not’, we continue on and placate ourselves often at other’s expense and most definitely our own.
